Private lines need their own attention.

Aurora directs locate requests to Ontario One Call and states that the Town does not provide locates for private property. Use that distinction to check which infrastructure is covered by the available information and what needs a separate locating arrangement.

Do not let the edge of the main building become the edge of the site review. Bring drawings for outbuildings, previous additions and other known underground installations into the discussion. Then identify the specific points the project needs exposed and the reason for each one.

Map the work area

Mark the proposed excavation alongside existing buildings, paved areas and known service routes. Show the limits of the actual work rather than just the street address.

Gather private records

Look for previous drawings and installation records for services within the property. Tell the project team which records are missing or uncertain.

Identify what the next stage needs: a checked crossing, a connection location or a measured test hole. Agree who records and uses the findings.

Do utility locates automatically cover every private line?

Do not assume complete coverage. Aurora’s guidance expressly distinguishes the Town’s service from private-property locating. Check the available responses and arrange any additional private locating required for the site.

Can daylighting be limited to a few points?

It can be scoped around defined points, subject to the site and utility-owner requirements. State why each exposure is needed; seeing one point does not prove the complete route of a buried line.
